City driving will get the temperature up faster than highway. What I am saying is that the temperature reading you see in the Engineering Mode is Coolant Temperature, not transmission fluid temperature. I'll try and post that tonight. Am i checking the fluid when at full temp, or just start it, row thru the gears, then check with a little temp in it? No matter the situation, Advance Auto Parts has the Transmission Cooler - O. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. Then make sure you have a very long funnel to get the fluid back in.
Upon further investigation into the car it is in the transmission part. The Freestyle has only 43,000 and had a clean Carfax. At this point I'm just ready to take all the bolts up with my quarter inch ratchet till they touch and then just keep doing quarter turns in a Criss-Cross pattern starting in the middle until I figured that it's tight enough. It looks like it might be more work than it is worth. I opened a case with Ford to beg for some financial relief to get it taken care of. Best bet is to have someone yank the transmission and remove the input shaft yourself. Win win situation for Ford at customer expense.
The noise increased slightly, and 2 days after the increase in noise, the transmission failed suddenly. It still has the original struts transmission fluid, haldex fluid, Etc so forth and so on. Make sure you use the proper fluid and the correct amount. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who advised that the transmission would need to be replaced. In my case this happened on one tab and on the other tab it pulled out the wrong part. I am now at 80K so it's time to do it again, plan to do it tonite, bought the fluid yesterday. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure.
We bought this car with about 124,000 miles on it. The video above shows where the transmission fluid dipstick is located in your Freestyle and how to check the transmission fluid level. I feel like I've been taken advantage of, and this Freestyle is indeed a lemon. Get six quarts, just in case you need some of that sixth quart to get it up to the correct level. Bugged all of the mechanics for old wheel bearings for the steel marbles inside.
One of the screws is behind the hood release lever. After the service the trans was alright for about another month and started again while on the highway. The top hole is full and the bottom hole is low. It would reverse but it would not go forward. One solution for Ford to consider if they cannot do a recall is to refinance vehicles for transmission repair at cost. The car is unsafe to drive, and the cost to repair is not in line with the taurus x of 2008 which they introduced a transmission that actually worked. I was reading up on the temp levels just last night.
This is an idea hijacked from German engineering. That's a 6 mm allen wrench. There are very few vehicles that she can actually get in and out of to drive. I used to own a trans shop. I could have the entire engine replaced on this 2007 Freestyle for cheaper than the transmission. It's a little bit in the way, but not too bad.
With the the transmission between 109deg f and 117deg f running in park the fluid should be at the bottom hole of the dipstick. Verify fluid level to be the same as first observed. The fill plug is located right on the top of the transmission. I was driving at approximately 45 miles per hour on the road, and the wrench light and traction control lights both went on and the rpm's went through the roof while acceleration slowed. Seriously, how can a company make a product and not have to provide the parts for it? All that said, you should only have to add fluid if the unit has been serviced and the incorrect amount was added; if the fluid's going somewhere you have other issues. Should this be a better business bureau matter? This released the top one, then I applied some pressure in the gap near the front. City driving will get the temperature up faster than highway.
The fluid should be checked with the transmission temp between 190deg F and 198deg F I think hot engine covers it running in park. This is very bothersome when driving to just to be able to pull over and shut car down for a few minutes then restart, then it drives like nothing is wrong till the next time. When fluid starts running back out of the hole, it is full. This is so wrong and if you search Ford Freestyle transmission issues you would not believe all the people from Canada and the States that are having problems. As I understand it, there are two filters on the Freestyle transmission, one internal and the other external to the transmission.
