Has anyone found a site or shop that is reasonable? Thus we question why there are so many deaths on our highways. If that's the case, we have a solution for you. I glanced down at my speedometer to make sure I was traveling 35 after seeing a state trooper and lo and behold, my speedometer indicated that I was doing 110mph! This is a product defect and I think gm should recall this problem. Besides this problem the truck runs and rides great. I explained to the officer that my speedometer was messed up. However, none of them can get theirs repaired under the recall because they have more than 70000 miles. Received it on Wednesday and within 10 minutes it was installed and worked perfectly.
This does not seem to adversely affect the odometer. I never received the recall notice for my z71 Chevrolet Avalanche and Chevrolet is saying that they put a limit on the year and mileage. A significant safety issue I went to the dealership from who I bought my vehicle. The manufacturer advised the contact that a service letter was mailed to him prior to the failure regarding the odometer and a repair was also performed; therefore, they vehicle could not provide any additional free remedies. They were not aware of the fact that many Avalanches and other gm suvs have identical problems usually a bad stepper motor in the instrument cluster.
I wrote the corporate office and got nowhere. I called gm service, went to the local dealership and called the dealership where the vehicle was purchased. The condition in mine is exhibited when temperatures are below 45-50 degrees typically in winter , and began last winter. The instrumental cluster gear light indicator failed and she was unable to see what gear the vehicle was in. I associated it with the weather and didn't think too much about it.

I drove many miles for work and for transporting hockey kids to practice, games, tournaments, etc. I was in a 35mph zone. The vehicle has not been involved in any type of accident the speedometer just started going from 10 miles per hour to 100 miles per hour. You are not purchasing a part. Cruise control is not affected by this failure.

It does not register the right mph on the gauge, sometimes it registers at different speeds example is that when you are doing the speed limit it will register 120 mph and when you are stopped it says your are going 50 mph. Also in the package was a lifetime warranty. The vehicle had not been inspected but the dealer, when called, stated that the contact would be responsible for any repair expenses. Our speedometer stopped working about 1 year after we bought it.
I pulled over and called my Chevy Dealer and told them about the problem. I do see other complaints filed here concerning the same issue. The mileage on the vehicle exceeded the warranty mileage. The vehicle had not been repaired when the complaint was filed. The speedometer failed periodically which caused the cruise control to fail. Not knowing have fast your going is not a safety issue!! Just last week the speedometer started going haywire.
Like many of the other complaints I read. We pride ourselves on having skilled technicians, a knowledgeable customer service team and the highest caliber repair that includes a limited lifetime warranty. I have talked with my Chevrolet service department and they said this is becoming very common. It is only a matter of time before I get a speeding ticket or worse, hurt somebody in an auto accident because I am not aware of my speed of travel. I have searched and searched for this recall online and amazing - can't find it.
The failure mileage was 45,000. The vehicle had 5,500 demo miles on the odometer. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. Why isn't this a safety hazard. Speedometer and I will recommend your service to anyone who needs this type of work… Thanks for saving me hundreds of dollars and the great professional manner. He said it is a shame that chevrolet doesn't stand behind there product any better than that, and recall and repair their faulty speedometers. You ship your part to us.
The manufacturer was notified of the defect. I pointed this out, and the dealer said basically that Chevrolet will not address this issue. There is an obvious defect with the part so why is the no investigation? The majority of the time, I have no clue how fast I am going. I researched it on the internet and found literally hundreds of cases of this exact same problem. It is very dangerous to drive if you do not know haw fast you are going.
Oh wait, yea gm doesn't say anything because consumers might take their business elsewhere! Repair of these clusters may incur an additional charge. We will return it in same packaging.
